Erin Tattersall
Former Martin High student Erin has built on the confidence and communication skills she developed at school, now beginning her career in public relations as a PR Intern at Mattel.Erin’s time at Martin High helped shape the confidence and communication skills she uses today in her career. Her favourite subjects — PE, RE, and Drama — played a role in developing those skills. “I think each drove me to develop confidence, learn different types of communication and how to navigate different people,” Erin explains. These experiences have led her to her current role as a PR Intern at Mattel Toys.
After leaving Martin High, Erin studied A-Levels in RE, Psychology, and Drama at WQE before earning an Associate Degree in Mass Communications from Eastern Oklahoma State College. She is now working toward a second degree in Media and Communications at Loughborough University.
Erin’s career journey includes writing for student newspapers, creating online articles, and working as a Music Director for LSU. “Before landing my current role, I had many rejections from other companies,” Erin says. “Taking those rejections as something that pushes you rather than breaks you down is important. If I hadn’t been rejected from a job I didn’t really want, I wouldn’t have landed my role at Mattel.”
In her current position, Erin’s week is varied. She collates press coverage, interacts with journalists to secure product features on platforms like BBC and ITV, and works across brand, franchise, and internal communications. Some days involve attending influencer events and creating guest lists; others include handling props from new Mattel movies or organising team finances for PR agency summits. Looking ahead, Erin hopes to work for a creative PR agency and manage brands.
